Daihatsu History:
Daihatsu was founded way back on march 1,1907.It was founded as Hatsudoki Seizo Company limited. However, the company was renamed in 1551 to Daihatsu Motor Company limited. Through the years, the company was enjoying relative success and it decided to forge a corporation with Toyota Motor Corporation. While enjoying success at home, the company thought it wise to venture into other regions. In 1988, the company entered the US market as Daihatsu USA. That very year, they launched with the Charade and Rocky. However, there was little success and besides, the US market was very competitive and thus less sales. Daihatsu decided to shut down its USA branch in February,1992.In 1995,Toyota bought into Daihatsu and gained a controlling interest of 51% share in Daihatsu Motor Limited. However, it was reported on 31 march ,2005 that Toyota would eventually stop operating from the Australian market after poor sales in 2005.Actually several companies were enjoying good sales and the overall new-car market in Australia was growing at 7%.They eventually wound operations in Australia on March 2006. Daihatsu had for long been a favorite brand in Chile but when sales went low in 2004 especially with the Charade and Cuore brands, Toyota wanted to exit the market but they have since stated that Daihatsu will continue operating in Chile. In the past, Daihatsu used to supply cars under different badges to various different automakers in the past and also supplies engines and transmissions for Perodua, one of the largest car makers in Malaysia. Perodua cars are widely sold in the United Kingdom and Malaysia

The company heavily uses the hybrid vehicle technology called Daihatsu Mild Hybrid System. They mainly use this technology in Atrai/Hijet Hybrid-IV. There is one at Ikeda(Osaka prefecture) where the headquarters are located .Another production plant is at Ryuo(Shiga prefecture).Another plant is at Tada(Hyogo Prefecture) and another at Oyamazaki (Kyoto Prefecture).There is also another plant in Indonesia at Sunter II and another one in Venezuela in Cumana, Estado Sucre..
